Privacy Writing
Tool
Grambo is built on a simple principle: your writing belongs to you. Grammar correction happens locally on your Mac โ no tracking, no data collection, no cloud uploads. Privacy isn't a feature โ it's the default.

How Grambo Protects Your Writing
Grambo's privacy model is based on architecture, not just policy. Here's exactly how your data is handled:
Local Processing by Default
Grammar correction runs entirely on your Mac using local AI models. No text is transmitted to any server unless you explicitly enable Grambo Cloud. The local AI runs in-process โ there's no network call to make even if one wanted to occur.
No Data Tracking
Grambo does not track your keystrokes, clipboard content, or background text. It only processes text you explicitly select and submit. Your overall writing behavior is never analyzed or recorded.
Secure API Key Storage
If you use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), your API keys are stored in your Mac's system keychain โ the same secure storage used by your passwords. Grambo never transmits your API keys to our servers.
No AI Training on Your Data
Your writing is never used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model โ Grambo's or anyone else's. We generate revenue from subscriptions, not from data. Your text has no commercial value to us beyond delivering the correction you requested.
The Privacy Risks of Cloud Writing Tools
Most grammar checkers and writing assistants were built with cloud processing as the default. This creates real privacy risks that many users don't consider:
-
โ ๏ธ
Your text is stored on external servers โ Even if temporarily, your writing passes through and may be retained on third-party infrastructure outside your control.
-
โ ๏ธ
Data used for model training โ Many cloud AI services reserve the right to use your inputs to improve their models, unless you explicitly opt out (and sometimes even then).
-
โ ๏ธ
Breach exposure โ Cloud-stored writing data is only as secure as the provider's infrastructure. High-profile data breaches have affected major SaaS companies including writing tools.
-
โ ๏ธ
Regulatory compliance risk โ For professionals in regulated industries (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2), sending sensitive content to cloud writing tools may violate compliance requirements.
Grambo solves this by design, not by policy. When you use Grambo in offline mode, there's no network call, no server, and no third party involved. It's physically impossible for your text to be transmitted because the architecture doesn't include it. Read the full details in our Privacy Policy.
Local Processing: How It Works
Grambo's offline grammar correction uses small, efficient language models (Llama 3.2 3B, Qwen 3 1.7B) that run locally on your Mac via an on-device inference engine. Here's the complete data flow in offline mode:
-
1
You select text
Select text in any Mac app โ Mail, Notion, VS Code, anywhere.
-
2
Shortcut triggers Grambo
Press โโงG. The selected text is passed to Grambo locally โ no clipboard, no network.
-
3
On-device AI processes the text
The local language model runs on your Mac's CPU/GPU. No internet request is made.
-
4
Corrected text is returned
The corrected text replaces your selection directly. Nothing is stored, nothing is sent.
